Alaska Dance Project was founded by Adam Sage to create a space where dancers could bridge the divide between the pre-professional and professional worlds of ballet. ADP is a tuition-based, hybrid program, offering online coaching, classes and live workshops for dancers of exceptional talent.
Our mission at Alaska Dance Project is to provide high-quality training, coaching and mentoring in a supportive and inclusive environment. We strive to create a culture where dancers can feel challenged, inspired and nurtured through positivity.
ADP will have performance opportunities at the conclusion of live workshops which are held throughout the year.
Adam Sage has enjoyed over 45 years of performing, teaching, coaching, directing and choreographic career that has spanned four continents. Mr. Sage has served as the Associate Artistic Director of Ballet Philippines, Founder/Artistic Director of Missouri Ballet Theatre, Artistic Director of Springfield Ballet, Artistic Director of Virginia School of the Arts, Ballet Master of Nashville Ballet, School Director of School of Nashville Ballet and Adjunct Faculty at Webster University in St. Louis Missouri.
He is a former principal dancer of Ballet Philippines, Hong Kong Ballet, N.A.P.A.C. Dance Company – South Africa, Ballet Memphis and Nashville Ballet. Mr. Sage has been teaching ballet for over 45 years and has trained and mentored students that have gone on to dance professionally with Ballet West, Texas Ballet Theatre, Houston Ballet, Scottish Ballet, North Carolina Dance Theatre, Carolina Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Ballet Memphis, Nashville Ballet, Alberta Ballet, Hanover State Opera Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Martha Graham Dance Company, Paul Taylor Dance Company, LA Dance Project.
Caitlin Helton Scherer was a founding member of Missouri Ballet Theatre, where she danced under the artistic direction of Adam Sage. While with the company, she danced the roles of Snow Queen and Dew Drop in The Nutcracker, Hermia in the world premier of A Midsummer Night's Dream, Fire Fairy in Cinderella, and lead roles in Rays of the Sun, Opus 18, Masquerade, Baroque Fantasy, Tres and Porteno Fantastico. Helton Scherer was raised in Springfield , Illinois and danced many leading roles at Springfield Ballet Company before moving on to further her training at Nashville Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Ballet Austin and the Rock School for Dance Education. She went on to place in the Regional Top 12 at Youth America Grand Prix and competed at the international finals in New York City. Caitlin attended Butler University for dance performance on a merit scholarship. She then went on to graduate magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in educational phycology from the University of Illinois in Springfield. Ms. Helton Scherer is certified in Progressing Ballet Technique and successfully completed the American Ballet Theatre's National Training Curriculum levels 1 - 3. She has guest taught and choreographed for many arts organization in the Midwest Region.
We are seeking dancers ages 16 - 23 years of age with exceptional talent and passion.
ADP offers the following in an online format:
*Private coaching - 1 hour minimum per week
*Private classes - 1 hour minimum per week
Mentoring opportunities - 1 to 2 hours minimum per month
*Summer Intensive Auditions
*College Prep
*Company Auditions
*Ballet Competitions
Here at ADP, we strive to nurture the whole dancer, body and mind. We believe in educating each individual dancer as to the importance of not only their sound classical technique, but to their sound mind and spirit. Coaching and mentoring will involve more than just class and rehearsal time, but include discussions regarding the mental and physical well-being of each dancer.
Live workshops to be held in Ketchikan, Alaska in late November and early March.
